The Gin & Chocolate Trail Races 2026
There was some truly wet and wild weather this weekend at our deliciously challenging Gin & Chocolate Trail Races and yet the runners were smiling and laughing through it all, creating a great atmosphere for this inaugural event.
Yes, this trail race really did lift the spirits. At mile 3 runners stopped in at our VIP aid station in the high-altitude Cat & Fiddle Inn, home to the award-winning Forest Distillery. It would have been easy to call it a day here, ordering a drink to sit with by the fire, but the runners bravely headed back out onto the wild Peak District moors in search of stunning, far-reaching views.
Having soaked in as many views as they could, runners charged back down towards Errwood Reservoir and our finish lines, fuelled by the knowledge that waiting for them back in our cosy race HQ at Errwood Sailing Club was a Forest Distillery Gin and Tonic as well as handmade chocolates from Buxton's Hot Chocolaterie.
The sailing club began to fill with stories from the trail as runners tucked into their post-race treats and hot cups of tea, and it quickly became apparent that this race had all of the ingredients needed to become a future favourite. After another brew, a bit more chocolate, and some kit maintenance with Paul from Trainer Drainer, it was all over.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who took part, to all of our wonderful volunteers, and our fantastic local partners. Through this event we've been able to fund a Peak District Wildfire Officer for half a day's work and make our regular contribution to the Peak District Foundation Paths & Trail Appeal...
because if we love running here, we should do our bit to protect it!
Up next is our SOLD OUT Cheese & Crackers Trail Races in Hartington on the 1st of November 2026, but be sure to join the waitlist just in case. If you don't want to miss out on another of our trail races, why not scroll to the bottom of our website homepage and subscribe to our newsletter.
