Looking to take in some of the most iconic Peak District views whilst supporting local businesses? Our Castle and Cake run ticks all boxes for scenery, terrain and of course, cake. Our short (6.5km) and long (13.1km) routes have been carefully designed to provide an enjoyable variety of running for participants both experienced and new. Beginning your journey below the historic Perevil Castle, taking in the mysterious Mam Tor, the Great Ridge and providing panoramic views of both Castleton and Edale, these iconic routes leaves little to be desired.

To enter this event you must be aged 18 or over on the 10th of May 2025. This is to comply with the UK Athletics rules for competition.

On the morning of the race, head to Castleton Village Hall (S33 8WJ) to collect your race bib and timing equipment. Be sure to have all of your running gear with you for a mandatory kit check. The start line is roughly a 15-minute walk from registration, so please plan to arrive at the village hall to register a minimum of 35 minutes before the wave start time you select when completing your online registration. Final race instructions will be issued 6 weeks prior to race day.

LONG COURSE

Runners will be required to carry the below mandatory kit. Failure to present any of the items during kit check in registration or to marshals on course will result in instant disqualification from the event without refund. This is for your safety along with that of our event staff and other runners.

Waterproof jacket - with taped seams and integrated attached hood
Waterproof trousers - with taped seams
Suitable off-road running shoes - fell/trail shoes
Hat/buff and gloves (head and hand cover)
Spare dry long-sleeve layer
Sufficient nutrition for the race plus an emergency 500 calories

Foil blanket/emergency shelter
Fully charged mobile telephone in a waterproof case (or waterproof phone)
Drinking water (minimum 500ml filled at start)
Reusable race cup or bottle
Whistle
A GPS device with the route downloaded (i.e. watch, phone or similar), or a map & compass with the route marked.

SHORT COURSE

Runners will be required to wear suitable off-road running shoes and are strongly advised to wear and/or carry kit appropriate for the expected and potential weather conditions.

RACE DAY

SATURDAY 10TH OF MAY 2025

7:15am - Registration and Bag Drop open.

8:00am - The first wave of short and long course runners start.

Every 10 minutes - The next wave of short and long course runners start.

9:15am - Registration is closed.

9:30am - The start line is closed.

12:00pm - Short and Long course close.

12:30pm - All bags must have been collected from Bag Drop.

12:30pm onwards - Enjoy Castleton and our tasty partnership with Peveril Store & Bakery.

With limited public transport options to Castleton on Sunday mornings, we appreciate a car may be your only way of getting here, so we ask that wherever possble you car share with friends and family also taking part and top marks if you can grab a lift with someone in an electric vehicle.

EV Charging in Catleton is available for those staying at YHA Castleton or Goose Hill Hall Holiday Cottages, otherwise there are plenty of charging options in nearby Chapel-en-le-Frith and Hope.

General parking is available at Castleton Visitor Centre with toilet facilities. If you are parking on the road we please ask you do so outside of the village centre to prevent being a nuisance to local residents.
